Darmstadt can easily be reached from Frankfurt International Airport by car or bus in about 15-20 minutes. The high speed ICE and IC trains stop at the main station and public transportation is generally well developed and organized in the whole Rhine-Main area. Darmstadt is also located at major autobahns.

Traveling by plane

If you are traveling by plane we recommend to book a flight to Frankfurt International Airport which serves most international destinations in the world. A list of airlines operating at the airport can be found here.

A direct shuttle bus connection (timetable, pdf) to Darmstadt's main station (the "Hauptbahnhof" or "Hbf") is available at the airport and leaves almost every 30 minutes during the day. The bus stops are outside of each of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The ride takes about 20 minutes and costs Euro 7.30. A taxi from Frankfurt International Airport to the conference center darmstadtium in Darmstadt costs about Euro 50-60.

It is also possible to take the train from Frankfurt International Airport to Darmstadt's main station which takes significantly longer, i.e. about 45 to 60 minutes. Different trains run from the two train stations "Regionalbahnhof" and "Fernbahnhof" of the airport to the main station of Frankfurt ("Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)") where you will have to change the train to Darmstadt's main station ("Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)").

How to get from Darmstadt's main station to the conference center is described below.

Please be aware not to confuse Frankfurt International Airport with the regional Frankfurt Hahn Airport which - despite its name - is about 2 hours by car away from Darmstadt and Frankfurt and only poorly connected to by public transportation to Darmstadt.

Traveling by train

If you like to travel by train please check the website of the Deutsche Bahn for available connections and online booking. Please choose "Darmstadt Hbf", Darmstadt's main station, as your destination.

From Darmstadt's main station to the center of the city

Different bus and streetcar lines connect the main station ("Hauptbahnhof", Hbf) with the center of Darmstadt, where the conference center and most hotels are located. The timetable can be found through this website. Please choose "Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof" as your origin, and "Darmstadt Schloß" as your destination to get to the conference center, or "Darmstadt Luisenplatz" for the pedestrian zone of the inner city which is also not far from the conference venue.

We recommend just to buy one way tickets if you do not need public transportation to get from your hotel to the conference venue during your stay.

If you like to hike it takes about 45 minutes walking from the main station to the conference venue.
