Since August 2013 an Atlas, one of the most advanced humanoid robots in the world, has been granted to our joint Team ViGIR with TORC Robotics and Virginia Tech for development as a rescue robot for humanitarian assistance and relief in disaster-response operations. At this time, the robot is being installed and operated at a joint lab at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, USA.
Our currently six different humanoid robot prototypes (38 cm - 130 cm high) provide a testbed for research in autonomous biped robots. As one of the youngest member of the humanoid RoboCup team Darmstadt Dribblers (DD), the 55cm tall Bruno (leftmost in figure) is one of the most mature humanoid robots of this size. Bruno and team mates won the RoboCup world championships in 2009 and 2010 and were the first humanoid robots outside Japan to achieve the prestigious Louis Vuitton Best Humanoid Award in 2009.

In a cooperative project we are developing together with our partners an innovative robotic arm. It will have about the same work space and frequency of the human arm. A special drive concept based on series elasticity leads to several advantages. The most relevant is the high, passive safety in case of collisions which makes it especially suited for application in a human environment and in human-robot cooperation.
In the BioBiped project we collaborate with the Locomotion Laboratory of Jena University. The aim is to develop human-like bipedal robots that are capable of human-like three-dimensional stable standing, walking and running and autonomously selecting different gaits. Recently, the first robot within a planned series, BioBiped1, has been developed. It is the first of a series of platforms to investigate and evaluate hypotheses and results from biomechanics in robotics. Read more.
Small sized autonomous ground vehicles with wheels or tracks are developed in cooperation with the Institute of Flight Systems and Control. They are used in the PhD program Cooperative, Adaptive and Responsive Monitoring in Mixed-Mode Environments.
A small sized autonomous marine vehicle is being developed. It will be used among others for research in the PhD program Cooperative, Adaptive and Responsive Monitoring in Mixed-Mode Environments.
We have developed a as a versatile, open and modular platform for research and education in autonomous robots.
Our RoboCup team, the Darmstadt Dribbling Dackels (DDD), participates in the Sony Four-Legged Robot League and won the GermanOpen in 2002, 2003 and 2007 and the World Championship with the GermanTeam in 2004, 2005 and 2008.
The 130cm tall "Lara" is the first humanoid robot on two legs being actuated not by electrical motors but by 34 newly developed artificial muscles. Furthermore, Lara exibits a design which at the same time is futuristic and feminine. More details will be provided at www.lara-robot.de.
The wheeled Pioneer robot provides a testbed for research in autonomous navigation and exploration based on multiple sensor fusion.

"Daisy", the 80cm high humanoid robot prototype, provides a testbed for research in autonomous biped robots. It is a joint research project with the former Control Systems Group at Technische Universität Berlin, where it has been assembled.
Several Lego Mindstorm Robotics Invention kits have been used in the Basic Practical Course in Robotics.
